Hands-On “Bring Your Own Fish to Mount” Seminar with Jeff Mourning

Jeff Mourning - trout seminar

Jeff Mourning, multi-World, National and State Champion will be doing a two-day “hands on” fish seminar. Bring your own frozen 18″-22″ trout or salmon and learn hands-on how to mount from start to end. The class will consist of:

  • Templating and carving a body
  • Skinning for a pedestal
  • Molding fins and head
  • Form preparation for mounting
  • Mounting the fish
  • How to repair the seam

We will also discuss reference and how to use it, and what type of reference, as well as finishing the fish for painting.

Cost to attend is $500 per person for current NTA members. Non-member fee is $600.  Space is limited so please reserve your spot early! Non-refundable 50% deposit is accepted to reserve your spot. Registration closes December 30, 2018 at 11:59pm – no exceptions. We will provide continental breakfast, lunch, afternoon snacks and drinks. We will also have some of the material provided by our sponsors and local suppliers: MORE TO COME!

Fish tips: Provide your own, or a customer’s fish. One trout/salmon around 18″-22″ (a little smaller/bigger is OK). No large trophy fish or fish smaller than 16″. Try to get a fish with clean fins and no scars; preferably spawning try to avoid silver fish. Any species of salmon or trout is acceptable.

About Jeff Mourning: 

Jeff has fished extensively throughout Colorado as well as all over the United States and Mexico; at one point he would fish over 250 days a year. He is knowledgeable in warm water, cold water, and saltwater species. He began doing taxidermy as a hobby in 1995, started competing in 1997, and soon after began doing fish taxidermy full-time. He began judging competitions in 2001 and has judged at State shows, Nationals and The Worlds, including the European Championships.

Some of Jeff’s accomplishments include:

  • 5 Second in world titles including silver Carl Akeley
  • 20 best of show awards
  • 7 Wasco awards
  • 2 distinguished taxidermists
