Fleming Fund
Need Free Money? We’re Giving It Away! The Charlie Fleming Education Fund (CFEF) was created to honor past president, and one of the founding members of the NTA, Charlie Fleming. The principal used to create the CFEF, was donated individually, by a multitude of considerate NTA members. These donations were made separate from other NTA dues or acessments. The concept of the CFEF, is to retain the principal donated to the fund itself, and use the annual interest earnings to provide cash scholarships for qualified NTA members, or their dependents. Scholarships will be awarded to selected applicants, to further their education in taxidermy, or to attain higher education. Applications for taxidermy education will often have priority over applications for higher education. In most instances, scholarships are $500.00, with the number of scholarships awarded annually, determined by the interest earnings of the CFEF, for that particular year. Scholarships must be used directly for tuition, or educationally related expenses, such as books. The scholarship committee will not release these funds until verification of tuition, or until qualified expense receipts have been provided to the NTA Treasurer. Failure to utilize the scholarship within one year from earning it, will result in the scholarship being awarded to a runner up. Qualified members may be eligible for more than one scholarship, at the discretion of the scholarship committee. A qualified member shall be any NTA member in good standing, that is in, at least, their third year of continuous NTA membership, or their legal dependent. Legal dependents shall be defined as children, or stepchildren, less than twenty-one years of age, or spouses of members. Applications for CFEF scholarships must
provide the following:
Applications and statements must be in the NTA executive director’s office, no later than April 30th of the year the scholarship is applied for. The NTA executive director will forward photocopies of all applications, as well as ballots, to the chairman, and all voting members, of the CFEF committee, for their consideration, and vote. Committee members will send their Ballots promptly, to NTA headquarters, and the NTA executive director. The NTA executive director will compile all Ballots, and notify the recipients of the CFEF scholarships, as well as, those that do not receive a CFEF scholarship. The CFEF Committee consists of past NTA presidents. The NTA Treasurer provides checks, drawn from the CFEF, to the scholarship recipients. It is expressly understood, that the principal funds in the CFEF, are never to be drawn against. These funds exist solely, to bear interest for providing scholarships, as described above. The CFEF committee shall be the sole administrator for the fund, and all decisions of said committee, shall be final and binding. The NTA Treasurer shall reflect the CFEF in the NTA annual report, and in the financial report, as this fund is an asset to the NTA. In the event of the dissolution of the NTA, the CFEF will be regarded as another asset of the NTA, and dealt with accordingly. There have been countless success stories since the first scholarship was awarded, in 1988. Anna Ehrlich received her Bachelors Degree in Education, and went on to help teachers work with students on conservation, gun safety, and hunter education, by assisting the South Carolina Wildlife Department, on “Project Wild.” Another CFEF success story was Jennifer Gilyard, who received her Master’s Degree in accounting, from the University of Florida, in 1995. And still another CFEF success was Pam Kadlec, past NTA affiliate president of the Florida State Taxidermists Association. Pam achieved a lifetime goal, by receiving her Associate of Arts degree, from Santa Fe Community College. These individuals, along with many others, were helped by Charlie Fleming Educational Fund Scholarships, which cost them nothing. Do you have an educational goal you would like to achieve? Would you like some FREE MONEY? Whether you want taxidermy training, or higher education, the CFEF scholarships are available for qualified members, or their dependents. Any NTA member in good standing, in their third year of continuous membership, is eligible. That’s it! The NTA is working for you! You could
be one of the recipients of the Charlie Fleming Educational Fund Scholarships.
